Διαγωνισμός Ορθογραφίας 2012

The spellers are getting better; that much is certain. Some of them have watched YouTube videos of past Anatolia bees, and they had sharpened their skills in the in-class bees used to select the 20 finalists, two from each section of 1st form English. The result was that it proved so difficult to dislodge them from the raised stage of Tsipos Hall on May 10th that the Bee wasn’t decided until the bell for class had rung. When it was all over, Panagiotis Mistakidis had taken 1st place (he had no trouble with “definitely,” “mosquito,” and “Massachusetts”), Elina Konstantinidou was in 2nd (she nailed “hippopotamus”), and Eri Marioglou was in 3rd (having spelled “exercise” correctly, among other words). English teacher Helen Hondropoulos served as the Queen Bee, calling out the words and providing example sentences to illustrate their meaning – and doing her best to keep the audience of the spellers’ classmates calm!
